Jealousy provokes worker's killing

JAKARTA (JP): Police have captured a South Jakarta resident who is believed to have killed a contract worker in a fit of jealousy.

Maj. Tasmin, a spokesman for the city police, said the suspect identified as Nahrowi, 21, resident of Cilandak Barat subdistrict, South Jakarta, killed a contract worker identified as Ilyas, 22, who hailed from Jember, East Java. According to police, the death occurred at around 8 p.m. on Monday.

Ilyas was reportedly working for a developer building a luxury house there.

Police said that Nahrowi and Ilyas were involved in altercation before the murder took place.

Police believed that Nahrowi had deliberately angered the victim by nudging him with his elbow when they met at an alleyway in the area. Nahrowi had long been jealous of Ilyas, as the contract worker was said to have been on "good terms" with the suspect's girlfriend.

The slight collision reportedly led to a fight between the two men.

Nahrowi, who was helped by a friend named Boy, stabbed Ilyas in the chest and then fled, leaving the victim to bled to death at the scene.

Nahrowi was captured early yesterday morning in his hideout in South Jakarta while Boy is still at large. (jsk)
