JCI Surges to 7,057 on Tuesday as Foreign Investors Continue Selling Activity
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Composite Stock Price Index (JCI) surged at the close of trading on Tuesday (5/5/2026), but amid this strengthening, foreign investors engaged in net selling amounting to hundreds of billions of rupiah.
Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), the JCI rose 85.15 points or 1.22% to the level of 7,057.106.
Nevertheless, foreign investors recorded a net sell of Rp518.39 billion across the entire market.
The net selling in the regular market reached Rp317.94 billion, while in the cash and negotiated markets it amounted to Rp200.44 billion.
On Tuesday’s trading, BMRI shares closed higher at 4,490, up 70 points or 1.58%.
Intraday, BMRI shares briefly touched a high of 4,570 before facing selling pressure and moving consolidatively until the close.
In contrast, EMAS shares weakened significantly. The stock closed at 8,625, down 275 points or 3.09%. Throughout the session, EMAS trended downwards with consistent selling pressure.
Meanwhile, BBCA shares recorded limited strengthening to 5,950, up 50 points or 0.85%. However, technically, BBCA’s movement appeared to weaken in the latter half of the session after reaching a high of 6,075.
On the other hand, foreign net buying was recorded in several leading stocks, led by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BBRI) at Rp213 billion.
Additionally, PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT) recorded a net buy of Rp138.1 billion, and PT Shield On Service Tbk (SOSS) at Rp70.8 billion.
The JCI closed with solid gains on Tuesday’s trading, breaking through the psychological level of 7,000 and ending the session at 7,057.
The JCI’s strengthening occurred after opening at 6,968.56 and moving fluctuatively in the early session.
The index even touched a daily low of 6,921.61 before reversing direction and surging to a daily high of 7,069.20.
From the trading activity perspective, the transaction volume reached 43.92 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp23.87 trillion and a trading frequency of 2.46 million times.
The distribution of stocks showed dominance in gains, with 342 stocks rising compared to 314 falling, and 163 stagnant.
Meanwhile, the Indonesia Stock Exchange’s market capitalisation reached Rp12,654.69 trillion.
