The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) opened weaker by 31 points or 0.41% at the level of 7,528 during Wednesday’s trading session, 22 April 2026.

Head of Retail Research at BNI Sekuritas, Fanny Suherman, predicted that the JCI has the potential to move sideways, or flat, in today’s trading.

“The JCI has the potential to move sideways today,” said Fanny in her daily research on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

She stated that Asian markets strengthened in Tuesday’s trading, driven by investor optimism regarding the prospects of peace negotiations between the US and Iran.

Another positive sentiment was bolstered by increasing interest in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. In South Korea, the Kospi index surged 2.7%, and the Kosdaq rose 0.4%.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 strengthened by 0.9%, Topix weakened by 0.18%, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell moderately by 0.04%. On the other hand, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.34%, and Taiwan’s Taiex soared 1.75%.

Additionally, market participants are awaiting the confirmation hearing for Kevin Warsh as a candidate for Fed leadership. In his statement, Warsh reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining monetary policy independence, amid criticisms from US President Donald Trump towards the central bank.

“JCI support is at the 7,450-7,500 level, while resistance is in the 7,570-7,600 range,” she said.

For information, Wall Street’s major stock indices uniformly weakened on Tuesday, in line with growing investor concerns that a peace agreement between the US and Iran will not be reached before the ceasefire deadline expires.

The S&P 500 fell 0.63%, the Nasdaq Composite weakened 0.59%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average corrected by 0.59%. Towards the close of trading, reports emerged that the planned visit by US Vice President JD Vance to participate in negotiations with Iran has been postponed.

The postponement is related to a lack of commitment from Tehran. Additionally, US President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire will be extended until Iran submits an official proposal.
