Detiknews.id Surabaya – The Jatim Talk event, organised by the East Java Representative Office of Bank Indonesia (KPw BI Jatim) together with the Indonesian Economists Association (ISEI) Surabaya Branch as Coordinator for East Java, featured the theme of Strengthening Competitiveness through Downstreaming and Sustainable Investment.

BI Jatim emphasised the importance of synergy and adaptive steps across sectors to maintain stability and continue the momentum of economic growth amid global geopolitical dynamics. The event also served as part of the dissemination of the East Java Provincial Economic Report (LPP).

The Head of BI Jatim Representative, Ibrahim, stated that East Java’s economy continues to show solid performance with growth of 5.33% (year-on-year) in 2025. This achievement serves as an important capital in facing global challenges, including the escalation of conflict in the Middle East.

“Synergy and adaptation are needed to face challenges while capturing opportunities,” said Ibrahim at the Jatim Talk event in Surabaya.

Meanwhile, the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, affirmed East Java’s strategic role as the New Gateway to the Archipelago. She is working to strengthen it through inter-regional trade and investment cooperation, as well as accelerating the downstreaming of strategic commodities and creating a conducive investment climate.

“East Java also serves as the national food barn. With a focus on strengthening distribution, downstreaming products, and improving the quality of Human Resources (HR),” she emphasised.

The forum featured several speakers from the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the Ministry of Industry, Bank Mandiri, and academics from Airlangga University.

In the discussion, the speakers assessed that global conditions have the potential to pressure the national and regional economy. However, opportunities remain open through strengthening investment, improving workforce quality, and appropriate strategic policies.

On that occasion, BI Jatim also handed over the LPP book to the Governor of East Java. It contains policy recommendations, including: strengthening goods distribution, accelerating industrial downstreaming, strengthening food security, developing MSMEs and tourism, fiscal digitalisation, and increasing workforce productivity.

The event is part of the series leading to the East Java Economic Forum (EJAVEC) 2026, scheduled for September this year.
