The program of free Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination provided by the East Java provincial government for cattle farmers has been a key factor in boosting sales ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026.

This was stated by Suparto, manager of Gunungrejo Makmur Livestock Cooperative, during Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa’s visit to the cooperative in Gunungrejo village, Kedungpring district, Lamongan regency, on Sunday (24 May).

The free FMD vaccination and Artificial Insemination (AI) programmes by the East Java provincial government have also contributed to improving livestock quality and availability.

To prepare for Eid al-Adha 2026, the cooperative has set aside approximately 300 sacrificial cattle of Ongole crossbreed, Limousin, Simmental, and local breeds. Currently, 80% have been sold to areas including Surabaya, Gresik, and Sidoarjo.

“Approximately 300 cattle are prepared for Eid al-Adha 2026, and 80%, or about 260, have already been sold to Surabaya, Gresik, and Sidoarjo, with the East Java Governor purchasing eight,” Suparto said.

The free FMD vaccination has greatly boosted cattle sales as no animals have been affected by the disease. “We hope this programme continues,” he added.

Governor Khofifah confirmed that sacrificial livestock stock, particularly cattle, not only meets East Java’s needs but is also ready to fulfil requests from outside the province.

“It is sufficient, safe, and healthy—I believe this must be communicated to the public, not just for East Java but also beyond,” she said.

According to reports from livestock departments across East Java’s regencies and cities, the total available sacrificial livestock for 2026 stands at 2,055,978 head, comprising 629,119 cattle, 940,693 goats, 484,468 sheep, and 1,698 buffaloes.

Meanwhile, projected demand for sacrificial livestock in East Java for Eid al-Adha this year is estimated at 427,060 head, including 70,550 cattle, 297,900 goats, 58,600 sheep, and 10 buffaloes.

“Based on these figures, the sacrificial livestock available in East Java for 1447 Hijriah/2026 meets the demand for cattle, goats, and sheep,” Khofifah explained.

Furthermore, Khofifah praised Lamongan regency as a key livestock supplier in East Java. Data for 2026 shows Lamongan has 108,987 beef cattle, 97,288 goats, 86,319 sheep, and 130 buffaloes.

“Thank you to the Lamongan Regent for having a substantial cattle supply,” she said.
