Jasa Raharja Ensures Compensation for Victims of ALS Bus Accident in Muratara
Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA) - Jasa Raharja has ensured that all victims of the accident involving the Antar Lintas Sumatera (ALS) bus and a tanker truck in Musi Rawas Utara Regency (Muratara), South Sumatra, will receive compensation in accordance with applicable provisions.
Head of Administration at Jasa Raharja’s South Sumatra Regional Office, Sugeng Prastowo, in Palembang on Friday, stated that compensation will be provided to both deceased victims and those injured.
“All accident victims are covered by Jasa Raharja. For deceased victims, compensation of Rp50 million is given to the heirs. Meanwhile, injured victims are covered for treatment costs up to a maximum of Rp20 million,” he said.
He explained that the process of handing over compensation to the heirs of deceased victims is still awaiting official identification results from the National Police’s Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team.
Jasa Raharja is currently continuing to collect data on victims’ families in cooperation with the Population and Civil Registration Service (Disdukcapil).
“We are still collecting data on victims’ families. Some data has been gathered through cooperation with Disdukcapil. However, the handover of compensation still awaits DVI results to ensure that the rightful heirs receive it,” he said.
Furthermore, Sugeng stated that Jasa Raharja is also continuing to coordinate with hospitals and the police to ensure all victims receive their accident coverage rights.
The fatal collision between the ALS bus and the tanker truck occurred on the Trans-Sumatra Highway in Karang Jaya Ward, Muratara Regency, on Wednesday (6/5) afternoon.
Head of Public Relations at South Sumatra Police, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, in Palembang on Thursday (7/5), explained that the incident involved the ALS bus with licence plate BK-7778-DL and the R6 tanker truck with licence plate BG-8196-QB.
Based on initial investigation results, the accident is suspected to have occurred when the ALS bus, travelling from Lubuklinggau towards Jambi, attempted to avoid a pothole on the road. However, the vehicle lost control, veered into the oncoming lane, and collided with the tanker truck, causing a massive fire.
Preliminary police data records a total of 20 victims in the incident, consisting of 16 deceased, three with serious injuries, and one with minor injuries.
