Jakarta — PT Jasa Raharja, the state-owned insurance company, has confirmed that all public transport passengers and riders participating in the 2026 Lebaran exodus will be protected by insurance should they suffer traffic accidents.

Jasa Raharja’s Chief Executive Muhammad Awaluddin explained that all public transport passengers who purchase tickets are automatically covered by Jasa Raharja insurance. This is because the ticket includes a mandatory contribution component paid by passengers, which functions as an insurance premium guaranteed by the state through Jasa Raharja.

“This becomes a form of insurance premium guaranteed by the state through Jasa Raharja for them. So everything is secured in terms of basic protection if an accident occurs,” Awaluddin said after the Flag Off for BUMN Free Mudik in Jakarta on Tuesday, 17 June 2026.

Compensation for accident victims ranges from minor to serious injuries at Rp20 million. Those who die receive compensation of Rp50 million, which can be distributed to beneficiaries within a maximum of 48 hours.

Awaluddin also outlined recent trends showing improvement in accident and fatality ratios. In 2025, accident incidents fell approximately 13 per cent compared to 2024, whilst fatalities declined by 52 per cent year-on-year.

“We have been monitoring the first two days of the mudik period on 13 and 14 March. Based on data from the Korlantas National Police, fatalities have decreased by 45 per cent,” Awaluddin said.

He expressed hope that the downward trend in accidents and fatalities will continue throughout the approximately 18-day mudik alert period, which should reduce insurance claims during this year’s exodus.

According to Awaluddin, one effort to reduce accident claim risks is through the state-sponsored free mudik programme, which encourages travellers—particularly motorcycle users—to switch to safer transportation modes. The programme provides travel facilities using buses, ships and trains.

Additionally, Jasa Raharja has strengthened coordination of healthcare services to accelerate treatment of accident victims. The company has partnered with 2,817 hospitals throughout Indonesia to expedite medical treatment processes and compensation distribution.
