The Indonesian National Traffic Police Corps Chief, Irjen Pol Agus Suryonugroho, stated that his agency is preparing the Jakarta-Cikampek (Japek) II South Toll and the Bocimi route as intervention pathways to manage the 2026 Lebaran return traffic. These routes are primarily designated for vehicles coming from West Java and the southern corridor.

Agus explained that return traffic management does not rely solely on the main toll roads but also requires distributing vehicles through alternative and functional routes. This scheme is implemented to disperse the load of vehicles heading towards Jakarta earlier when traffic volumes rise.

“Those from West Java can also be managed with traffic engineering interventions. Specifically, the functional Japek II South Toll, including Bocimi from Parung Kuda towards the centre and vice versa. During the daytime, it will be used for return traffic,” said the Traffic Corps Chief at the Rest Area KM 62 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll, Saturday (28/3/2026) night WIB.

According to Agus, the southern routes are a primary focus during the second wave of return traffic. Vehicle flows from those areas are deemed likely to add pressure to the main routes towards Jakarta, especially when volumes from the east increase simultaneously.

Therefore, the Traffic Corps is positioning traffic engineering in the southern regions as part of an overall control strategy. Interventions are not only conducted on toll roads but also on arterial routes that serve as important connections for vehicles from tourist areas, supporting cities, and inter-district corridors.

“Arterials are quite dense, but we have managed them well,” Agus stated.

He explained that local police personnel have been instructed to actively deploy to the field to alleviate congestion on non-toll routes. This management is handled by Provincial Police Chiefs, Regency Police Chiefs, and Traffic Unit Heads, particularly on the North Coast route and southern routes, which still showed density on Saturday night.

At the same time, the Traffic Corps is maintaining the second stage of local one-way operations on the main route from KM 263 to KM 70. A one-lane contraflow from KM 70 to KM 55 towards Jakarta is also being continued due to persistent density in the flow towards the capital.

Agus revealed that scenarios for expanding traffic engineering were considered on Saturday morning. However, the plan to extend the one-way towards the east has not been implemented following reports from Central Java indicating steady vehicle flows, including from the Kalikangkung Toll Gate parameters which have not yet reached high levels.

Although the second stage return traffic conditions are not yet very high, the Traffic Corps is still preparing follow-up measures if a vehicle surge occurs on Sunday (29/3/2026). One of the options prepared is the implementation of the third stage local one-way, in line with the potential increase in flows from the east and south.
