TOKYO (AP): Japan will send a delegation of officials to
Indonesia for talks on promoting economic reforms in the
Southeast Asian nation, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said
Tuesday.
The group of officials from Japan's agriculture, finance,
foreign and trade ministries will depart yesterday for a three-
day visit, said a Foreign Ministry official.
Delegation members will hold talks with local government
officials and representatives of Japanese companies, said the
official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Japan, the biggest aid donor to Indonesia, had planned to
disburse US$1 billion in loans last month, but discussions with
officials in Jakarta were postponed due to political turmoil in
Indonesia.
Also Tuesday, Japan downgraded its warning against travel to
Indonesia to an advisory, Kyodo News reported. The change allows
families of Japanese working in Indonesia to return, but
discourages leisure travel to areas outside the resort island of
Bali.
