Japan's aid for boats

JAKARTA (JP): Japan will provide 1.625 billion yen (US$16.36
million) and Rp 10.37 billion ($4.68 million) to aid Indonesia in
its procurement of four navigation boats, an official says.

"The aid, to be provided under a soft loan financing scheme
through the Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund, will cover the
costs of designing and engineering the planned boats, the
procurement of materials and navigation facilities, as well as
the training of crew members," said Sudarman Sellong, president
of PT Dok & Perkapalan Surabaya, the state-owned company hired to
construct the boats.

Sudarman signed a contract yesterday with Director General of
Sea Transportation Soentoro, which stipulates that construction
of the boats will be completed within 19 months.(fhp)
