Japanese nationals evacuated from the Middle East amid Israel–Iran conflict
Tokyo (ANTARA) – Thirteen Japanese nationals, including staff of the embassy in Iran, and one foreign family member, have been evacuated by bus from Tehran to Azerbaijan, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday, as the Middle East conflict intensified. A total of 60 Japanese nationals also arrived by bus in Muscat, the capital of Oman, from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (the UAE), while a further 30 arrived in the same city from Abu Dhabi. Eighty-four other Japanese nationals arrived in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, by road from Kuwait, the ministry said, amid the turmoil that has gripped the region since a surprise attack on Iran by the United States and Israel on 28 February. Iranian state television confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as a result of the attack, which also caused damage and casualties among civilians. Iran then retaliated by launching missiles at targets in Israel and at US military facilities in the region.
