Indonesia has received an investment commitment from Japan worth US$23.1 billion, or approximately Rp390.39 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp16,900 per US dollar). This amount was obtained following President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to the Land of the Rising Sun on 29-31 March 2026.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani stated that the amount was signed at the Indonesia-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo on Monday, 30 March 2026. “Despite the ongoing geopolitics in the world, international confidence, especially from Japan, remains strong, and they are committed to carrying out investments in Indonesia in the future,” explained Rosan Roeslani in a written statement on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

Of the total commitment, US$20.9 billion is for the investment in developing the Abadi Gas Field in the Masela Block between PT Pertamina (Persero) and the Japanese oil and gas company INPEX. Then, US$800 million from SMBC Aviation Capital to the Nusantara Future Energy Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara).

Furthermore, PT Pegadaian (Persero) has received a funding commitment of US$300 million from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation to support financial inclusion and the development of the gold ecosystem. In addition, US$500 million from 2Way World and Indonesian partners for collaboration in the beauty and aesthetics sector.

The remainder consists of investments in a number of geothermal projects in the country. “Indeed, for renewable new energy, Japan has a very strong interest,” stated Rosan Roeslani.

He said that Japan is one of the five countries that make a significant contribution to foreign capital investment in Indonesia. In 2025, the realisation of foreign capital from the Land of the Rising Sun amounted to US$3.1 billion, or approximately Rp52.4 trillion.
