Japan to invest more in Thailand

BANGKOK: Japan will increase its investment in Thailand and other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), particularly in the automotive industry and its component industries, as well as in finance.

Chairman of the ASEAN-Japan Business Council Meeting, Staporn Kavitanon, said on Friday that Japan would reinvest in Thailand, which is known as one of the most investment-attractive country compared to other members.

Kavitanon, who is a former chairman of Thailand's Board of Investment, said the country would offer more attractive packages to lure in foreign investment, focusing on good governance and protection of intellectual property rights.

He also said that Thailand would provide tax incentives and improve business management and workers' skills to welcome the Japanese investment.

Japan has slowed down its investment in China due to increasing wages and the strengthening yuan. -- Antara
