Japan offers exchange program
JAKARTA (JP): The Japanese government through the Association of International Education, Japan, has announced that it will invite students enrolled in Indonesian universities to participate in a short-term student exchange promotion program at Japan's universities.
"The program is part of the `Peace, Friendship and Exchange' initiative in commemoration of 50 years of the end of World War II," said Director of the Student Exchange Division of Japan's Bureau of Science and International Affairs, Akitoshi Inoue, earlier this week.
Inoue said that the program, which is the first of its kind, is open to students from Asia Pacific countries.
To each successful student, the Association will grant scholarships of 100,000 yen per month, travel expenses and a settling-in allowance of 50,000 yen which will be given at the time of arrival.
The scholarships are awarded for a one-year study period in Japanese universities which have student exchange agreements with Indonesian universities. For the 1995/96 fiscal year, Inoue said, Japan plans to award 1,000 scholarships.
The program is available to students enrolled in a regular course of study in university who demonstrate excellent academic and personal records. (pwn)
