Japan offers exchange program<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Japanese government through the Association
\nof International Education, Japan, has announced that it will
\ninvite students enrolled in Indonesian universities to
\nparticipate in a short-term student exchange promotion program at
\nJapan's universities.<\/p>\n
\"The program is part of the `Peace, Friendship and Exchange'
\ninitiative in commemoration of 50 years of the end of World War
\nII,\" said Director of the Student Exchange Division of Japan's
\nBureau of Science and International Affairs, Akitoshi Inoue,
\nearlier this week.<\/p>\n
Inoue said that the program, which is the first of its kind,
\nis open to students from Asia Pacific countries.<\/p>\n
To each successful student, the Association will grant
\nscholarships of 100,000 yen per month, travel expenses and a
\nsettling-in allowance of 50,000 yen which will be given at the
\ntime of arrival.<\/p>\n
The scholarships are awarded for a one-year study period in
\nJapanese universities which have student exchange agreements with
\nIndonesian universities. For the 1995\/96 fiscal year, Inoue said,
\nJapan plans to award 1,000 scholarships.<\/p>\n
The program is available to students enrolled in a regular
\ncourse of study in university who demonstrate excellent academic
