Japan Foundation to Hold Blue Economy Discussion at Undip
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Japan Foundation Jakarta will hold its third Campus Town Hall event entitled “Blue Economy: The Importance and Challenges” at Diponegoro University (Undip) in Semarang, Central Java, on 26 February.
“After the Campus Town Hall programmes in Jakarta and Surabaya were successfully conducted, we will continue with a similar event in Semarang on 26 February,” said Assistant Director of the Japanese Studies and Global Partnership Division at the Japan Foundation, Seki Tomoya, in Jakarta on Wednesday (18/2).
He noted that more than 66 per cent of the ASEAN region comprises maritime territory, making maritime cooperation key to the region’s future.
“Collaboration among ASEAN nations together with dialogue partners, particularly Japan, plays a strategic role in promoting sustainable development based on the Blue Economy,” he said.
The discussion will feature Reo Kawamura, Director of the Regional Knowledge Centre for Marine Plastic Debris at the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia, as well as Mohamad Rahmat Mulianda, Director of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas).
Previously, Campus Town Hall events were held in Jakarta on 21 October and in Surabaya on 19 November as platforms for students to interact with ASEAN and Japanese experts.
