Jambi Bans Coal Transportation During Hajj Pilgrims' Departure
The Jambi Provincial Government (Pemprov Jambi) has issued a policy for the temporary suspension of coal transportation activities on public roads to ensure the smooth flow of traffic for vehicles transporting prospective Hajj pilgrims (JCH) to the Hajj dormitory.
This policy is based on an official letter from the Governor of Jambi issued on 28 April 2026, Number: S.500.10.27.7/917/SETDA.PRKM/IV/2026, regarding the temporary suspension of coal transportation operations via land routes.
“Every year, this operational suspension policy is routinely implemented to facilitate the traffic of prospective Hajj pilgrim groups, especially in areas outside the city, because without this directive, departures or schedules to the dormitory could be disrupted,” said the Secretary of the Jambi Provincial Government, Sudirman, in Jambi City on Tuesday.
He explained that this policy is intended to ensure that prospective Hajj pilgrims, particularly those from districts and cities, can reach the Hajj dormitory in Jambi City according to the scheduled timetable, without traffic obstructions.
Sudirman assessed that the current river water flow conditions, which are experiencing high tide, support the smooth distribution via river routes.
The Jambi Provincial Government will further emphasise this regulation through a circular letter.
Although calls to optimise river routes have been made since the beginning, the emphasis on suspending land routes is considered important for the greater public interest.
The temporary suspension of coal transportation activities on national roads in Jambi Province will take effect from 10 May 2026 at 6:00 PM WIB until 21 May 2026 at the same time.
“The most important thing is not just starting it; we have been urging the optimisation of river routes from the outset. So, even if there is an emphasis on the temporary suspension of land routes, it is to make it easier for Hajj pilgrims so that their traffic flow is not disrupted,” he said.
