Jakarta’s provincial government has received praise for creating a more vibrant Ramadan atmosphere through the “Mudik ke Jakarta” (Return to Jakarta) Ramadan Festival, running until 31 March 2026.

“The vibes are warm, and residents’ enthusiasm is extraordinary. The DKI Provincial Government and all its departments have done remarkably well, making the Ramadan atmosphere really cool,” said one official in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

The festival serves as an entertainment and healing alternative for residents who choose to remain in Jakarta during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. With hotel discounts and retail discounts of up to 70 percent at various shopping centres, residents can still enjoy the festive moment without travelling outside the city.

The provincial government has implemented tax incentive policies for business operators as a mutually beneficial solution. Sellers receive relief whilst buyers enjoy more affordable prices. “This is a win-win solution. Both sellers and buyers benefit through subsidies from the Provincial Government. We support this,” the official stated.

Officials encouraged residents to celebrate Eid with orderliness and happiness, particularly those remaining in the capital. “For all residents staying in Jakarta, instead of dealing with traffic congestion, they should still follow regulations so that our Eid celebration proceeds with joy and happiness,” they noted.

The “Mudik ke Jakarta” theme encourages residents to stay in the capital, as travel can lead to congestion and difficulties. With modern video calling technology, residents can connect with family members anytime. The initiative runs from 27 February to 31 March 2026.

The programme is implemented by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in collaboration with the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) DKI Jakarta, the Indonesian Travel Agents Association (Astindo) DKI, and the Jakarta Experience Board.

Additionally, the governor announced free public transport across Jakarta during Eid, including LRT, MRT, and Transjakarta services.
