Jakarta's Gender Inequality Index is the Lowest Nationally
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for DKI Jakarta reports that Jakarta’s Gender Inequality Index (GII) for 2025 is recorded at 0.144, making it the lowest nationally. “The lowest inequality or the best gender equality between men and women is in DKI Jakarta compared to other provinces. In comparison, the national GII is 0.402, far above DKI’s GII,” said the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Tuesday. The GII measures inequality between men and women across three dimensions: reproductive health, empowerment, and participation in the labour market. The GII ranges from 0 to 1. The smaller the GII value, the lower the level of gender inequality, or the better the equality between men and women. “Improvements have occurred in all components of the GII, particularly in the reproductive health dimension, which has improved further, as well as increased achievements in women’s education,” stated Kadarmanto. “DKI’s GII has decreased to 0.144, or a drop of 0.003 points compared to the 2024 GII, reflecting a reduction in gender inequality in DKI Jakarta,” added Kadarmanto. Although DKI Jakarta’s GII is the lowest nationally, there are still variations in inequality across districts/cities. The highest inequality is recorded in the Thousand Islands Regency at 0.199, while South Jakarta has the lowest at 0.124. “The lowest inequality is in South Jakarta, followed by East Jakarta (0.130), then Central Jakarta (0.142), West Jakarta (0.147), North Jakarta (0.175), and the Thousand Islands,” revealed Kadarmanto.
