Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta reported that Jakarta’s economy grew by 5.59 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the first quarter of 2025, supported by the wholesale and retail trade, motor vehicle and motorcycle repair sector. “The wholesale and retail trade sector provided the largest contribution to DKI Jakarta’s economy, serving as the highest source of growth with a contribution of 1.06 percent,” said the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Tuesday. The next largest contributor to growth based on business fields was information and communication, contributing 0.88 percent, followed by accommodation, food, and beverage services, which contributed 0.56 percent to the growth. Kadarmanto stated that, from the production side, the highest growth in the first quarter of 2026 was achieved by the accommodation, food, and beverage services sector at 10.84 percent. This increase in the sector’s growth was due to the rising number of foreign tourists, an increase in domestic tourists visiting Jakarta, and a higher number of visits to restaurants or dining places. The sector with the next highest growth was other services, which grew by 8.37 percent year-on-year. This growth was driven by the number of domestic tourists heading to Jakarta, particularly visits to recreational and entertainment venues, which also experienced an increase. Next, the sector with the third highest growth was transportation and warehousing, which grew by 8.31 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026. “The growth in the transportation and warehousing sector is reflected in the increase in the number of passengers on rail transport, land transport, sea transport, and also ASDP, which rose,” said Kadarmanto. In addition, the volume of sea freight transport and the volume of traffic on toll roads also increased. Meanwhile, from the expenditure side, the household consumption expenditure component (PKRT) provided the highest contribution to growth at 3.32 percent, followed by gross fixed capital formation (1.68 percent); and government consumption expenditure (0.47 percent).
