Jakarta West City Government Deploys 12 Tanker Trucks to Suck Up Floodwater in Puri Kembangan
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta West City Government deployed 12 tanker trucks to suck up floodwater in the area under the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) W1 toll road, Puri Kembangan, on Tuesday. “On Outer Ring Road, 10 water tankers from the Water Resources Sub-Department, Parks and City Forest Sub-Department, and Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Gulkarmat) of Jakarta West. Then, on South Kembangan Road, two units for sucking up pooling water,” said Jakarta West Mayor Iin Mutmainnah to reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday. She said that heavy rain that hit since Monday (4/5) afternoon until night caused several rivers in the Jakarta West area to overflow. As a result, several areas were inundated with floods. “I have asked the ranks to carry out handling to minimise the impact, including pooling on several roads and traffic arrangements,” Iin stated. Her side also hopes that the handling efforts can make the road pooling subside quickly. “So, the pooling can subside soon and traffic can return to smooth,” Iin said. In addition to deploying water tanker trucks for sucking up, her side also deployed a combined 30 personnel to accelerate the handling of the pooling. Until Tuesday afternoon, traffic flow from Cengkareng to Kembangan and vice versa was jammed and densely crawling. The flood up to 60 centimetres high caused several vehicles to be stuck under the toll road. Hundreds of motorcycles that recklessly broke through the flood ended up stalling and piling up on the side of Outer Ring Road towards Cengkareng. That condition made traffic on Kembangan Raya Road and Outer Ring Road severely jammed. Not surprisingly, vehicle horns blared at each other. Bumps between vehicles and arguments among drivers were unavoidable, especially due to the many two-wheeled vehicles trying to turn around to find alternative routes amid the densely crawling traffic. Dozens of combined personnel from the Traffic Unit of the Metro Jakarta West Police Resort and the Transportation Sub-Department of Jakarta West were seen busy regulating traffic in the area.
