Jakarta Unemployment Dips Slightly, 334,000 Residents Still Jobless
JAKARTA - The number of unemployed people in Jakarta decreased in February 2026. However, behind this decline, there are still around 334,000 residents who have not yet found work.
Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta shows that the number of unemployed in February 2026 was recorded at 334,000 people, down from 338,000 in February 2025.
“It decreased by around 4,540 people compared to February last year,” said the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026), quoted from Antara.
Although it has decreased, proportionally, the number of unemployed remains quite significant. Out of a total workforce of 5.53 million in Jakarta, around six out of 100 people are still unemployed.
From that number, 5.2 million people are recorded as employed, an increase of 62,180 people over the past year.
From February 2025 to February 2026, labour absorption reached 62,180 people.
“The increase in labour absorption occurred in full-time workers and underemployed, while the number of part-time workers decreased,” said Kadarmanto.
“In other words, around six out of 100 members of the workforce in Jakarta are unemployed,” he added.
Viewed by gender, the male unemployment rate (TPT) in February 2026 was recorded at 6.54 percent, down from 6.77 percent in February 2025.
A decrease also occurred in the female unemployment rate, which became 5.28 percent from the previous 5.29 percent.
“Although in terms of level, this is still lower compared to the male TPT,” said Kadarmanto.
