The Jakarta provincial government will soon adjust fares for a number of TransJabodetabek routes due to the mounting subsidy burden. Governor Pramono Anung stated that the subsidy borne by the Jakarta Provincial Government has become too large, necessitating immediate changes.

One route confirmed for a tariff adjustment is the SH12 service from Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Pramono stressed that the decision on this fare revision will be finalised shortly. “For the TJ (Transjakarta) Blok M fare, that is TransJabodetabek, not TJ, we will decide soon,” Pramono said in Matraman, East Jakarta, on Friday (5 June 2026).

He explained that the adjustment will not only target the airport route but also several other TransJabodetabek routes. He argued that a tariff evaluation is necessary to keep the regional fiscal burden for transport subsidies under control. “In these coming months, we will decide on several routes, not only Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta, but also other TransJabodetabek routes that need adjustments because the subsidies are too large,” he added.

Currently, Transjakarta operates 18 TransJabodetabek routes connecting Jakarta with surrounding buffer cities, all still charging a regular fare of Rp3,500. Internal data from Transjakarta shows a rising public interest in the service. In April 2026, passenger numbers reached 2,467,493, an increase of approximately 22 percent compared to March 2026, which recorded 2,021,547 passengers. The D21 route (Universitas Indonesia-Lebak Bulus) was the most in-demand line.

Ayu Wardhani, Head of the Public Relations and CSR Department at Transjakarta, described the surge in passengers as a positive signal of public awareness in using public transport. However, with the planned fare adjustment, the Jakarta Provincial Government is now calculating the balance between service affordability and the sustainability of the subsidy budget.
