Jakarta to implement 60-minute blackout tomorrow

The Jakarta Provincial Government will switch off lights across several protocol and arterial roads, as well as various Jakarta icons, tomorrow, Saturday, 19 September 2026, for 60 minutes from 20:30 to 21:30 WIB, as part of the World Ozone Day commemorations.

The Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), Dudi Gardesi, stated in an official briefing on Friday that the blackout will affect the National Monument (Monas), the Arjuna Wiwaga Statue, the Selamat Datang Monument at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout, the Pahlawan Statue, the General Sudirman Statue, and the Jakarta City Hall area.

He noted that the action serves as a reminder that environmental awareness can begin with simple habits, including the wise use of electricity.

“Everyone can play a role, whether at home, in the workplace, or in business premises. Simple steps taken together and consistently will yield greater benefits,” said Dudi.

The conservation effort is estimated to result in a reduction of approximately 60.14 tonnes of CO₂e emissions.

This achievement, according to Dudi, demonstrates that the involvement of the government, building managers, business actors, and the public can produce measurable energy savings.

Therefore, the Jakarta Provincial Government hopes that this spirit of togetherness will continue to grow and become part of the daily lives of residents.
