Jakarta to host International Air Show '96

JAKARTA (JP): Approximately 800 aircraft-related companies and
120 aircraft are expected to participate in the International Air
Show 1996.

The air show will be held at the Soekarno-Hatta airport,
Jakarta, from June 26 to July 1 next year, chief of the air
show's Organizing Committee, Wisnubroto, said on Thursday.

Wisnubroto said that some committee members are launching
campaigns by visiting several countries to promote the event and
inviting those countries which performed well during the
International Air Show in 1986 at Kemayoran airport in Central
Jakarta, to take part again in next year's event.

The 1996 exhibition will also feature aircraft acrobatic
shows, Wisnubroto said.

Wisnubroto said the committee would collect money from the air
show's visitors entrance fees and from the participants for space
rented but he pointed out that the exhibition is not a commercial
event.

Wisnubroto refused to reveal the total cost of the 1996 air
show.

Deputy chairman of the Agency for Technology Assessment and
Application, Harijono Djojodihardjo, said the exhibition is an
event reflecting the aircraft industries' sense of responsibility
to the public.

Harijono also said that the committee and two ministries, the
Public Works Ministry and the Transportation Ministry, are now
constructing new roads to reach Soekarno-Hatta airport, arranging
shuttle buses and many other public facilities.

He said the agency has appointed PT Royalindo Expoduta to hold
a seminar discussing various aspects in aeronautic industries.

The seminar is expected to be attended by high ranking civil
officials as well as high ranking military officers from the host
country, countries in the Asia Pacific region, Middle East,
Europe and the U.S. (mas)
