Jakarta to host copyright seminar
JAKARTA: Delegates from 23 Asia and Pacific countries are to
attend a seminar here later this month to discuss strategies and
policies for the protection of intellectual property rights, a
senior official said.
Abdul Bari Azed, the director general of intellectual property
rights at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, said the
seminar would focus on exchanging information, experiences, and
comparative studies of the various countries' efforts to curb
copyright piracy.
"We hope we can build coordination in law enforcement at both
the national and international levels to fight the piracy of
intellectual property rights as this is categorized as a
transnational crime," he said.
Titled the Asia Pacific Regional Symposium on the Protection
and Enforcement of Copyright and Related Rights, the event will
take place from Jan. 27 to Jan. 29.
Bari added that the seminar would also feature experts from
Indonesia, Australia, Hungary, India, Japan and the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). --JP
