Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has indicated the possibility of extending the LRT Jakarta line to the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 area and connecting it directly to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

“Earlier, I had a quiet word with the CEO of Agung Sedayu; perhaps it’s time to open the LRT from Velodrome to this location (PIK 2),” said Pramono during the inauguration of the Tian Fu Gong temple area in PIK, North Jakarta, on Sunday.

The plan is considered an important part of improving public transport connectivity in Jakarta through a loop system or integrated route.

Pramono explained that, in terms of the route, the development of the LRT Jakarta has actually received approval from the central government up to the Ancol area.

According to him, developing the transportation network in the northern part of Jakarta is a strategic step to improve connectivity between regions.

“For the LRT, the route has actually been approved by the central government up to Ancol,” said Pramono.

He said that the current LRT Jakarta project involves connecting the line from Velodrome to Manggarai. This route is approximately 12.2 kilometers long with 11 stations and an investment value of IDR 11.5 trillion.

According to him, further development can be extended towards North Jakarta. The LRT route is planned to pass through Tanjung Priok, the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), and then Ancol.

“If this is continued from Velodrome to North Jakarta, Tanjung Priok, from Tanjung Priok to JIS, from JIS to Ancol, then the next section that needs to be prepared is the connection from Ancol to PIK 2 and connected to Soekarno-Hatta Airport,” he explained.

If this entire network can be realised, then Jakarta’s transportation system will be fully connected.

In addition, Pramono said that currently, Jakarta’s public transport connectivity is only around 93 percent. Therefore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is working to complete the unlinked loop route so that people’s mobility becomes easier and more efficient.

“If this can be connected, then Jakarta’s loop transportation will be connected throughout. So far, it’s only 93 percent,” he said.

Pramono hopes that this development project can become a new milestone in strengthening Jakarta’s public transport, as well as supporting connectivity to surrounding areas and access to the airport.

In addition to reducing congestion, integration between modes of transport is also expected to increase public interest in using public transportation.

The plan to develop the LRT to North Jakarta and PIK 2 is expected to be one of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s long-term strategic projects in realising a modern and integrated transportation system in the metropolitan area.
