Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has announced plans to establish a provincial Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) scholarship programme under the Jakarta Provincial Government. The programme is set to begin operations in 2027.

“One of the things I really want to launch is establishing Jakarta’s own LPDP. Is it possible? I am confident it is,” Pramono said during an iftar gathering and dialogue with officials from the Jakarta Education Office and school principals at the Jakarta Education Office headquarters on Thursday, 26 February.

Pramono stated that his administration has begun detailed discussions on the initiative, including meetings with national LPDP leadership to identify an appropriate scheme for Jakarta to have its own scholarship programme.

“Three days ago, accompanied by Nana (Jakarta Provincial Education Office Head Nahdiana), I received the director or highest-ranking official at LPDP, Dwi Larso. We have already started discussing this in greater detail,” Pramono explained.

He acknowledged that the LPDP Jakarta launch had been delayed due to budget cuts in revenue sharing allocations (DBH) to Jakarta amounting to Rp15 trillion. However, the Jakarta Provincial Government has now identified a solution to realise the programme.

“I have informed Nana that if possible, next year we should be able to send at least 100 LPDP scholarship recipients,” Pramono stated.

Pramono emphasised that the Jakarta LPDP programme will be open equitably to all, including educators seeking to continue their studies at higher levels. He also encouraged support for education in Jakarta to extend beyond undergraduate level to include master’s and doctoral degrees.

According to him, education is the key to transforming an individual’s future, particularly for disadvantaged communities. Therefore, Pramono stressed his commitment to expanding educational access through various programmes, including the planned Jakarta LPDP initiative.
