Jakarta to Establish Independent Cattle Fattening Centre to Achieve Meat Self-Sufficiency
Jakarta’s Provincial Government through state-owned enterprise Perumda Dharma Jaya plans to establish an independent cattle fattening centre in Caingir, Banten, as part of a strategy to maintain beef stock and prices in the capital city.
Dharma Jaya’s Chief Executive Officer, Raditya Endra Budiman, stated that the primary objective of the cattle fattening facility is to ensure supply self-sufficiency and operational efficiency, as Dharma Jaya can maintain full control over beef supply availability.
Dharma Jaya also imports approximately 7,500 head of Australian cattle to meet beef stock requirements during Ramadan and Eid, given the shorter transport distance compared to other countries. Security and stock issues are also important considerations for importing Australian cattle.
The enterprise’s strategy focuses on securing stable beef supply to Jakarta through a combination of domestic production capacity and strategically sourced imports.
