Jakarta (ANTARA) – Justin Adrian Untayana, secretary of Commission E of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives, has called for stricter selection procedures for recipients of the Jakarta version of the Education Funds Management Institution (LPDP) scholarship programme to prevent collusion and nepotism.

“There should be no unfair ‘games’ that lead to collusion and nepotism, and no special treatment should be given to anyone,” Justin said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to him, the selection process must be rigorous, given that the LPDP issue gained prominence recently, particularly concerning the commitment of recipients to return and contribute to the nation or region after completing their studies.

Additionally, he stressed that the character and commitment of scholarship recipients to rebuild Jakarta after their studies must be verified well before they are sent to their destination countries.

“It should not be academic scores alone that are the primary consideration in determining who can be sent abroad,” said Justin.

Furthermore, he continued, the Jakarta Provincial Government must clearly map the academic pathways of LPDP recipients, so that upon their return after graduation, they can participate in rebuilding Jakarta through appropriate sectors.

“When these students return, they can work in sectors that align with their fields of study while studying abroad,” Justin explained.

Governor Pramono Anung has also expressed his ambition to establish a dedicated Jakarta LPDP programme. “One thing I truly want to champion is having a Jakarta LPDP. Is it possible? I am confident it is,” Pramono stated on 26 February 2026.

He indicated that detailed discussions on the plan have already begun, including meetings with national LPDP leadership to identify an appropriate scheme that would allow Jakarta to have its own scholarship programme.

“Three days ago, accompanied by Nana (Head of Jakarta Education Office Nahdiana), I received the director or the most senior official at LPDP, Dwi Larso. We have already started discussing this in more detail,” Pramono explained.
