Jakarta Residents Now Required to Sort Waste from Home, Here Are the Rules and Methods
JAKARTA - Jakarta residents are now required to sort waste starting from their homes. This policy is outlined in the Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) of DKI Jakarta No. 5 of 2026, which was recently signed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung.
This regulation serves as the foundation for implementing more widespread waste sorting throughout Jakarta, following initial examples in the Rorotan area, Cilincing, North Jakarta.
“I have signed the governor’s instruction for the waste sorting process, and in the near future we will collaborate with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the declaration of waste sorting in Jakarta,” said Pramono at City Hall on Monday (4/5/2026).
- Organic Waste (Green Colour)
This waste comes from materials that are easily decomposed.
Examples:
“Organic waste includes leftovers from cooking activities, food scraps, fruit peels, leaves, and other easily decomposable waste,” states the Ingub.
For organic waste, the DKI Provincial Government focuses processing on environmentally friendly methods such as composting, Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot cultivation, and biodigesters.
- Inorganic Waste
