The Housing Renovation Programme conducted by the Jakarta Provincial Government has received full support from the Jakarta Regional Parliament (DPRD). The programme represents a concrete step to improve the quality of housing for residents.

Assisting low-income citizens to live in homes that are more adequate, healthy, and safe, the Jakarta DPRD is encouraging the Housing Renovation Programme to be implemented sustainably and with accurate targeting. This will ensure that communities in need gain tangible benefits. The support also strengthens collaboration between the regional government and various parties in accelerating the handling of uninhabitable housing.

Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung, Deputy Chair of the DPRD Ima Mahdiah, Chair of Commission D Yuke Yurike, and Member of Commission B Wa Ode Herlina attended a symbolic handing over of housing keys to beneficiaries of the Housing Renovation Programme. The activity took place on Jalan Serdang Baru, RT 007/RW 005, Serdang, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

The programme is a collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government and Baznas (Jakarta Islamic Charity Foundation) to provide adequate and safe housing for the community. Ima Mahdiah appreciated various parties involved in the programme, ranging from residents, regional state-owned enterprises, state-owned enterprises, to the private sector.

According to her, the Housing Renovation Programme must reach all segments of society, regardless of religious background, so that tolerance values in Jakarta grow stronger. “This housing renovation programme must include all religions. Everyone must have equal opportunity,” Ima stated.

The programme improves the physical condition of homes and instils values of solidarity within the community. “When we help others, we do not consider any background,” she added.

Ima ensured that there are no charges in the housing renovation process. Residents who need similar assistance should coordinate with their local area officials to be verified by Baznas. “If residents indeed need help and meet the criteria, they can apply through their local area,” Ima said.

Governor Pramono Anung stated that the Housing Renovation Programme is part of his commitment to building Jakarta as an inclusive and just city for all residents. “I hereby officially launch this housing renovation programme,” Pramono announced.

The Jakarta Provincial Government formally launched the renovation of 26 housing units, comprising 10 units in Central Jakarta, four units in West Jakarta, 11 units in South Jakarta, and one unit in North Jakarta. Renovation of each unit uses a budget of approximately 50–55 million rupiah, with a construction period of three to four weeks.

During the renovation process, Baznas bears the cost of temporary accommodation for the homeowners receiving the benefit. “I request that this programme be open to all religions,” Pramono stated.

In 2026, the Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the renovation of 633 homes. Pramono appreciated the collaboration of various parties in implementing the programme. He also encouraged Baznas to expand the housing renovation programme so that zakat, infaq, and sedekah funds can increasingly benefit the community. “Baznas funds must truly be utilised for people in need,” he said.

Head of Baznas Jakarta Akhmad H. Abubakar stated that residents wishing to propose their homes for the housing renovation programme can report through their local neighbourhood (RT/RW) officials. “Residents can apply through their RT/RW, which will then be forwarded to the village administration for verification,” he said. He emphasised that the programme is prioritised for low-income residents. “The main requirement is certainly that residents are in need,” he stated.

The Jakarta DPRD supports the sustainability of the Housing Renovation Programme through collaboration with various parties, not only with Baznas. Chair of Commission D Yuke Yurike encouraged the Office of Housing and Residential Area Development to play an active role in renovating uninhabitable homes. Given that many residents’ homes still need improvement, particularly in roofing and building structure, “Many homes still have inadequate roofing conditions. This needs to be addressed immediately,” Yuke said.

She explained that residents can submit housing renovation requests through a hierarchical mechanism, from neighbourhood level to village administration and subsequently to Baznas. “This programme is open to all Jakarta residents in need,” she stated.

Yuke also requested that the Housing Office conduct a comprehensive survey of uninhabitable homes throughout the city so that interventions are more targeted. “It doesn’t have to be perfect, what matters is that it is adequate and safe to inhabit,” she said. Her hope is that financing the programme need not depend solely on Baznas, but could be supported by other sources. “Hopefully it can be backed up by various parties,” Yuke said.

Commission B member Wa Ode Herlina expressed similar views. She appreciated the involvement of regional state-owned enterprises (BUMD) in social programmes through corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. According to her, BUMD support greatly helps accelerate home improvements for low-income residents. “State-owned enterprises like Dharma Jaya and PAM Jaya are contributing,” Wa Ode said. She hoped that this collaboration could expand the reach of the Housing Renovation Programme in Jakarta. “We are grateful for the CSR support that benefits the community,” Wa Ode concluded.
