Jakarta Ready to Implement Work-From-Home Policy to Save Fuel in Line with Presidential Directive
The Jakarta Provincial Government has declared its readiness to comply with President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions on reducing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and fuel oil consumption. One of the measures being considered is the reintroduction of work-from-home (WFH) policies.
Governor Pramono Anung emphasised that Jakarta will strictly align with central government policies to anticipate the effects of global uncertainty. “Whatever directive comes from the central government will also be implemented in DKI Jakarta,” Pramono stated when met in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March).
Pramono explained that the prolonged conflict in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has placed significant pressure on national gas and fuel availability. Although fuel prices have risen considerably, he assured that supplies to the capital remain stable. “Fuel availability, particularly in Jakarta, remains secure, so I am confident that there will be no panic buying,” he added.
President Prabowo Subianto has previously urged all segments of society to proactively conserve energy. According to the President, Indonesia cannot be complacent about its current situation, given that global dynamics in Europe and the Middle East could trigger sudden increases in food prices due to rising energy costs. “We must reduce fuel consumption. We cannot assume that whatever happens, we are safe. We are fortunate to be safe, but there must be efforts to reduce our fuel consumption,” the President stated firmly.
Although the government has secured basic food requirements and accelerated plans for independent energy sectors, fuel conservation through policies such as WFH is considered a rational emergency measure to address global uncertainty.
