Jakarta Public Transport Free for Two Days During Eid
The Jakarta Provincial Government will provide complimentary access to all government-managed public transport services for two days during Eid al-Fitr this year. The policy applies on Eid day and Eid+1 to facilitate resident mobility and enhance the festive atmosphere in the capital.
“To welcome Eid this year, for two days all transport managed by the DKI Jakarta Government will be free. Whether MRT, LRT, TransJakarta, TransJabodetabek, JakLingko, or Mikrotrans, everything is free,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in an official statement on Tuesday, 17 March 2026.
Although services are free, passengers are still required to tap their electronic money card or e-money with a tariff of Rp 1 as a mechanism for recording journeys within the public transport system.
Beyond transport, the Jakarta Provincial Government is offering free access to several tourist destinations for holders of the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP). According to Pramono, this policy is intended to enable families with KJP-holding children to enjoy recreation during the Eid holiday. “Even for mothers whose children hold the KJP, entry to Ancol, Ragunan, and the National Monument are free,” he said.
The provincial government is also promoting a “Return to Jakarta” concept for Eid this year, targeting residents who are not travelling to their hometowns so they can still experience the Eid atmosphere in the capital.
As part of this programme, the local government is partnering with shopping centres and the hotel sector to launch discount festivals offering up to 70 per cent off. According to Pramono, the local government has also provided partial tax exemptions for these sectors to encourage economic activity during the Eid holiday period.
“The DKI Jakarta Government has exempted part of the tax for shopping centres and hotels. Later we will hold discount festivals of up to 70 per cent,” he said.
The Jakarta Provincial Government will also hold Car Free Night on takbir evening and provide space for residents to organise torch processions as part of the tradition of welcoming Eid al-Fitr. The policy is intended to make Eid celebrations in the capital more festive and leave a lasting impression on those celebrating.
