Jakarta Provincial Government Urges Residents to Wear Hats and Umbrellas Against Extreme Heat
The Jakarta Provincial Government has urged residents to be vigilant about the extreme heat forecasted for the coming days. The provincial government has cautioned the public to anticipate health impacts caused by exposure to high temperatures, including the potential for dehydration.
“So, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast, the weather will be quite hot over the next three days, including today,” Governor Pramono Anung told journalists at Pure Segera in North Jakarta, according to Antara news agency, on Sunday (15 March 2026).
Pramono urged residents not to worry by preparing precautions, one of which is to utilise healthcare facilities provided by the Jakarta Health Department.
“So, residents in Jakarta need not worry,” he said.
In a separate statement, Jakarta Health Department (Dinkes) Head Ani Ruspitawati explained that extreme heat can affect health such as fluid loss (dehydration), exhaustion (heat exhaustion), and heat stroke. Jakarta residents are urged to anticipate the impact of extreme heat on their bodies.
“Exposure from high heat can also trigger dizziness, muscle cramps, cardiovascular disorders, respiratory problems, and can also cause skin irritation,” Ani said.
Vulnerable groups including outdoor workers, children, pregnant women and the elderly face high risk of health impacts from extreme heat. For general precaution, she said, residents are urged to consume plain water and avoid foods with high salt content such as coffee and tea.
Then, residents are urged to use hats and umbrellas outdoors and to limit strenuous physical activities outdoors during daytime, especially for vulnerable groups. If indoors, use air conditioning (AC) or fans to maintain room temperature.
