Jakarta Provincial Government Urged to Build Independent Fire Hydrants in High-Density Areas
Jakarta — The Commission A of Jakarta’s Regional Representative Council has requested the Provincial Government to build independent fire hydrants in fire-prone and densely populated areas, with a target of constructing a minimum of 4 to 5 units per year to ensure adequate fire protection in these locations.
“During our working meeting with the Fire Service, we noted that only one independent hydrant is being built each year. We are calling for an increase,” said Commission A member Sutikno of the Jakarta Regional Representative Council on Wednesday in Jakarta.
According to Sutikno, the construction of independent fire hydrants in densely populated areas is essential, as these locations are not only difficult for fire service vehicles to access but also prone to fires. The densely populated nature of Jakarta means that fire service vehicles frequently cannot enter residential areas effectively.
During the meeting, Commission A requested that the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Dinas Gulkarmat) increase the construction of independent fire hydrants to a minimum of 4 to 5 units per year. “We from Commission A, working in partnership with the fire service, are proposing at least 4 to 5 independent hydrant units,” Sutikno stated.
According to him, independent fire hydrants are crucial to ensure that in the event of a fire, it can be quickly extinguished and prevented from spreading more widely. He also expressed hope that the budget allocation for independent hydrant construction would be adequate to meet community needs and ensure public safety.
“This is a community need. Furthermore, on average, Jakarta is densely populated and fire service vehicles cannot reach most areas,” Sutikno explained.
According to collected data, there are currently 40 independent fire hydrants distributed across Jakarta. The most recent independent hydrant constructed by the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service is located in Cempaka Putih Barat Village, Central Jakarta. The hydrant facility, located in RT 01/07 of Cempaka Putih Barat Village, is equipped with a stationary pump covering a one-kilometre service radius and a 14,000-litre water tank.
