The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is optimising the use of digital technology, data, and artificial intelligence (AI) in city governance as part of Jakarta’s transformation towards a competitive, inclusive, and sustainable global city. “Data, digital technology, and AI are now crucial factors in determining the competitiveness of a nation and a city. Jakarta, as the national economic centre, has the responsibility to be the driver of this transformation,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung. Speaking at the Indonesia Summit 2026 “The Next Us: Indonesia’s Leap in the Algorithmic Age” in South Jakarta on Thursday, Pramono stated that a city’s competitiveness in the algorithmic age no longer relies solely on physical infrastructure development. Cities must also be able to prepare talent, encourage innovation, and utilise technology to strengthen public services and policy effectiveness. “Therefore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to push Jakarta to become an increasingly competitive, inclusive, and sustainable global city,” Pramono said. He further noted that Jakarta’s position as a global city continues to show a positive trend. Based on the Global City Index, Jakarta’s ranking has risen from 74th to 71st. This achievement, he said, serves as a foundation to strengthen Jakarta’s competitiveness towards the target of ranking 20th among global cities by 2045. To achieve this target, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared the Jakarta RISE#20 initiative as a transformation framework towards becoming a global city. This initiative serves as a reference so that development programmes, service innovations, and the strengthening of Jakarta’s competitiveness proceed in a more directed manner. “This initiative functions as a roadmap to strengthen the foundations of development, drive innovative and inclusive growth, and enhance Jakarta’s role at the regional and global levels,” Pramono stated. On the other hand, Pramono explained that the application of technology is being carried out gradually in sectors that directly touch upon citizens’ needs, ranging from mobility, public services, spatial data management, strengthening the local economy, to the regional inflation control team (TPID). Additionally, the use of technology and AI is also being applied in city governance, for example through the Intelligent Traffic Control System, JAKI, Jakarta Satu, the digitalisation of traditional markets and MSMEs, as well as the use of technology by the TPID to maintain price stability and Jakarta’s inflation, which was recorded at 2.49 percent year-on-year in May 2026. In the field of flood mitigation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is optimising the use of CCTV cameras connected to the DKI Jakarta Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency. The system can be monitored by the public through the official website www.pantaubanjir.com and serves as part of decision-making support in the field. “This integrated system is the backbone for the Water Resources Agency’s command centre to make quick and accurate decisions regarding the operation of floodgates and pumps in real time, especially when the capital region enters a rainy season alert status,” Pramono revealed. The transformation of Jakarta must also ensure increasingly inclusive access to public services. In the transportation sector, he continued, Jakarta’s public transport connectivity has now reached 93 percent and continues to be developed to be more friendly for persons with disabilities, the elderly, and vulnerable groups. “Modes such as the MRT and Transjakarta continue to be developed to be friendly for persons with disabilities and the elderly,” Pramono added.
