Jakarta’s provincial government will operate a free mudik programme to 20 designated destinations on 17 March 2026. The annual initiative, which supports Jakarta residents returning to their hometowns for Lebaran, has generated unprecedented demand.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the free mudik programme has been exceptionally well received by the public, with registration numbers significantly exceeding provincial government projections. “The number of mudik participants has increased. Initially, we estimated only 26,000 people, but due to high enthusiasm, the number that has been verified and approved now stands at 30,774 participants,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

In response to the increased participation, Jakarta’s provincial government has expanded its bus fleet. The initial target of 667 buses has been increased to 709 units to accommodate all verified participants.

Syafrin Liputo, Head of Jakarta’s Transportation Department, confirmed that initial registration stood at 26,282 people, which subsequently increased to 30,774 following verification procedures. “As all participants have been registered and verified, they will all be transported. There will be no further announcements as the process is complete,” Liputo said.

The free mudik programme serves 20 destinations: Solo, Tasikmalaya, Palembang, Madiun, Sragen, Cilacap, Yogyakarta, Kuningan, Bandar Lampung, Tegal, Kebumen, Jombang, Pekalongan, Wonogiri, Kediri, Malang, Wonosobo, Purwokerto, Semarang, and Sidoarjo.

In addition to bus services, Jakarta’s provincial government provides motorcycle transport trucks to six destinations: Mangkang Terminal in Semarang, Kebumen Terminal, Tirtonadi Terminal in Solo, Giwangan Terminal in Yogyakarta, Giri Adipura Terminal in Wonogiri, and Purabaya Terminal in Sidoarjo. Motorcycles must be handed over by 15 March 2026 at 17.00 WIB.

Bus departures commence on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, from the National Monument area. Motorcycle transport trucks depart from Pulogadung Terminal on Monday, 15 March 2026.

The programme also provides return transport to Jakarta. Return journeys are scheduled for Thursday, 26 March 2026, from the 20 destination terminals to Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal. Motorcycle returns will be transported on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, from the six destination terminals back to Pulogadung Terminal.
