Jakarta provides trauma healing to children affected by West Jakarta fire
DKI Jakarta Social Affairs Office has provided psychosocial services, including trauma healing, to 50 children affected by a house fire on Jalan Krendang Barat in Tambora District, West Jakarta, on Friday.
Ira Ayu Puspita, Chair of the Social Disaster Victim Protection Subgroup at DKI Jakarta Social Affairs Office, said the activities were tailored to the children’s ages. “We conducted group singing, light quizzes, and drawing exercises. The aim was to prevent them from overthinking, with sessions divided by age groups for primary and junior high school students,” she told reporters at the scene on Friday.
The psychosocial services began at 14:30 WIB at Musala Al-Hikmah, where survivors were sheltered. “There is no fixed time for these activities; it depends on the situation and conditions of the location,” Ayu added.
Dozens of children gathered around social service officers on the second floor of the mosque. Gift packages were placed nearby for distribution to participating children.
Twenty-seven houses were destroyed in the fire that occurred on Thursday evening (28 May) on Jalan Krendang Barat, Tambora District, West Jakarta.
Syaiful Kahfi, Head of Operations Section at the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-District Office (Gulkarmat), confirmed the affected area comprised 27 residential properties.
As a result, 113 households (250 people) were displaced and sought refuge in the mosque and government-provided tents. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.
