Jakarta Police Chief Personally Leads Hundreds of Personnel in Clean-Up Operation Beneath North Jakarta Toll Road
A markedly different scene unfolded beneath the Sungai Bambu Toll Road in North Jakarta on Thursday, 19 February 2026. Hundreds of joint personnel were on the ground sweeping, hauling rubbish, and tidying an area that had previously appeared chaotic and unkempt.
The activity, entitled ASRI Task Force “Bang Jasri” (Bhayangkara Jakarta ASRI), was led directly by Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri. The operation forms part of a commitment to deliver a clean and orderly environment across the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction.
A total of 650 personnel were deployed for the effort. They comprised representatives from local government agencies, district offices, religious leaders, community figures, media partners, influencers, and police ranks.
The Police Chief stressed that the initiative was far from mere ceremony.
“This is not a symbolic exercise. We want to build a culture of cleanliness that starts from our immediate surroundings. If the environment is clean, the community is also comfortable,” he said, as quoted on Friday, 20 February 2026.
According to him, a culture of cleanliness must be instilled and maintained consistently. The movement is also in line with directives from President Prabowo Subianto regarding the importance of community service and fostering a culture of hygiene.
Additionally, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has also emphasised that the ASRI movement must be realised through concrete action, not merely slogans.
Inspector General Asep confirmed that the “Bang Jasri” programme will be held regularly and will target various other locations across the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction. The hope is that once areas have been cleaned, the public will play their part in keeping the environment tidy, pleasant, and comfortable.
The initiative also serves as a message that maintaining cleanliness is not solely the duty of government or the authorities, but a shared responsibility.
