Jakarta Police Chief Launches 'Bang Jasri' Environmental Movement During Cleanup Under Priok Toll Road
Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri and Deputy Chief Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono carried out a community cleanup, known as a korve, beneath the Priok toll road in North Jakarta. During the event, Inspector General Asep also officially launched the 'Bang Jasri' movement, short for Bhayangkara Jakarta Asri.
On Thursday (19 February 2026), at approximately 3.20pm Western Indonesian Time, Inspector General Asep and Brigadier General Dekananto, accompanied by North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat, were seen planting trees together. The trees were planted along the riverbank as part of a greening initiative.
Inspector General Asep and his team then proceeded to the area beneath the toll road, which was strewn with rubbish. Together, they rolled up their sleeves and collected the scattered waste.
Opening his remarks following the cleanup, Inspector General Asep extended greetings ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. He noted that fasting was no obstacle to carrying out the cleanup work.
"Before I begin my remarks, I would like to extend greetings as a fellow Muslim welcoming the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. May we observe this Ramadan with devotion and a spirit of peace," said Inspector General Asep.
"I also wish to extend best wishes to those observing the fast, and I hope that despite our fasting this afternoon, we can still carry out this cleanup activity, which itself constitutes a form of worship and good deeds for all of us," he added.
Inspector General Asep then formally launched the 'Bang Jasri' or Bhayangkara Jakarta Asri movement. The initiative is aligned with the 'ASRI' (Aman, Sehat, Resik, Indah — Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful) campaign championed by President Prabowo Subianto.
"In line with this, the National Police Chief established the ASRI Task Force as a driving force from National Police Headquarters down to the regional level. Furthermore, the National Police Chief has emphasised that the ASRI movement is not merely a slogan but must be realised through concrete action and become part of our daily working culture," he explained.
As a follow-up to these directives, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police established the 'Bang Jasri' movement as a tangible commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship.
The event was attended by 650 participants comprising representatives from city and district government, community leaders, religious figures, media colleagues, and social media activists, alongside members of the Indonesian Armed Forces and National Police.
"This represents our genuine concern for the environment — not merely a ceremonial agenda. We wish to create public spaces that are cleaner, better organised, and more comfortable for the community. A clean environment is the responsibility of all of us," he concluded.
