Jakarta (ANTARA) - The City Government through the North Jakarta Social Services Agency (Sudinsos) has distributed 72 hearing aids to residents in six sub-districts of North Jakarta City (Jakut). “This assistance is a form of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities,” said the Head of the Protection, Guarantee, and Social Rehabilitation Section of the North Jakarta Social Services Agency, Agus Kurniawan, in Jakarta on Friday. He stated that the distribution of the hearing aids aims to help beneficiaries return to optimal activities and improve their communication abilities in daily life. The assistance, he said, is sourced from the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) to enhance the quality of life for Jakarta residents, particularly those with sensory disabilities. According to Agus, before receiving the assistance, all prospective recipients underwent examination and measurement stages for the hearing aids. This process was conducted to ensure that the devices provided match each individual’s needs so they can function maximally. “The measurements were carried out by a professional team from PT Hearing Vision, the provider of the hearing aids,” Agus said. “Currently, there are still 128 units of hearing aids available that will be distributed in phase III,” Agus added. He explained that the next phase of distribution will be carried out after data on requests from sub-district service units, council members, and other community elements are collected and verified. The programme is expected to provide targeted social services and encourage improvements in community welfare, especially for people with disabilities. “We hope this assistance can support the needs of people with disabilities in their activities. We are also still conducting data collection on beneficiaries for other assistance, such as wheelchairs and prosthetic legs,” Agus added. Meanwhile, Irfan Indra (46), a resident of Pegangsaan Dua Ward who received the assistance, admitted that he can now hear again after experiencing an accident some time ago. The sounds and tones that were once lost, he said, are now starting to be felt again. His life has also improved after his hearing recovered. “Thank you to the government for the assistance,” Irfan expressed.
