Jakarta needs more events to boost tourist visits
The Jakarta Regional House of Representatives’ Commission B has called on the Tourism and Creative Economy Office (Disparekraf) to organise more events during major holidays to positively impact various business sectors. ‘If there are more events in Jakarta, it will have implications for other sectors such as restaurants and hotels. Ideas need to be improved,’ said Commission B Chair Nova Harivan Paloh in Jakarta on Monday. He added that various activities held in Jakarta can impact multiple sectors while driving economic growth in the capital. ‘Additionally, Jakarta needs to develop its tourism icons to position itself as a business hub and tourist destination both nationally and internationally,’ he said. ‘The city’s icons must be enhanced to provide more options for travellers,’ Nova stated. He also noted that the tourism and creative economy sectors must be strengthened to enhance Jakarta’s appeal and boost local revenue (PAD). Meanwhile, Tourism and Creative Economy Office Secretary Helma Dahlia said her department is prepared to follow up on legislative input by adding event agendas to support religious holidays in 2027. Helma explained that this move aims to ensure Jakarta remains a preferred destination for tourists during both holidays and regular days. ‘For religious holidays in 2027, we have planned events such as Waisak, Penjor, and Christmas,’ she said.
