Jakarta, VIVA – The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has ensured that the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations in the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings will proceed safely and in an orderly manner. A total of 155 personnel have been deployed to strengthen security at various celebration sites.

The hundreds of personnel will provide backup to the security arrangements already in place by the district and sub-district police units within the Jakarta Metropolitan Police's jurisdiction.

The Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, detailed the forces mobilised for this year's Lunar New Year security operation.

"The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has deployed 155 personnel, comprising one company (SSK) of 75 personnel from the Samapta Directorate and one company (SSK) of 80 personnel from the Mobile Brigade (Satbrimob)," he told reporters on Monday, 16 February 2026.

According to him, the security approach involves both overt and covert measures. Officers will be stationed at a number of Buddhist temples, Chinese temples, and public gathering centres that serve as celebration venues.

"The Jakarta Metropolitan Police is carrying out overt and covert security operations at a number of places of worship and celebration venues, accompanied by increased patrols in vulnerable areas, public gathering centres, and routes leading to Buddhist and Chinese temples," he said.

Beyond static guarding, the police are also undertaking other anticipatory measures, ranging from sterilising locations prior to worship services to managing traffic flow around celebration venues.

"We are sterilising locations before worship services, managing traffic, and strengthening coordination with the administrators of places of worship and relevant agencies," he said.

With this layered security arrangement, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police hopes that the public, particularly those celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse, can carry out their worship and Lunar New Year traditions with a sense of safety and comfort.
