Jakarta Metropolitan Police Deploy Thousands of Personnel to Secure 165 Temples During Lunar New Year
Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) have placed 1,919 joint personnel on standby for security operations during the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations across the force’s jurisdiction. The security measures are designed to ensure that all religious services and festivities proceed safely, in an orderly fashion, and without disruption.
Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that security would be conducted through both overt and covert operations, prioritising a humanistic approach and public service.
He said the thousands of personnel would be focused on 165 temples spread across the entire Polda Metro Jaya jurisdiction.
“Security for the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations is being carried out in an integrated manner together with the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and local government. We are ensuring that all 165 temples conducting religious services receive maximum security so that the public can worship safely and comfortably,” Budi said in a statement on Tuesday.
Budi explained that the personnel comprise 155 officers from Polda Metro Jaya, 1,106 officers from subordinate police stations, 225 TNI personnel, 217 Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) members, 123 Transport Agency personnel, 53 Health Agency personnel, and 40 Fire Service personnel.
Budi stated that all elements would work in synergy under an integrated security pattern covering places of worship, shopping centres, tourist areas, and other crowded locations.
In addition to guarding duties and area patrols, Polda Metro Jaya has also prepared situational traffic management measures around celebration venues. This is intended to anticipate vehicle congestion during worship hours and peak visitor periods.
Furthermore, Polda Metro Jaya urged all members of the public to collectively maintain a conducive security situation and to follow the directions of officers on the ground.
“Should the public require police assistance, they can contact the 110 emergency service, which is active 24 hours,” Budi said.
