Jakarta manpower office sets up employment information center

JAKARTA (JP): The city office of the Ministry of Manpower has set up an employment information center to serve people who want to know about employment matters, including job opportunities in the city.

Coordinating Minister for Security and Political Affairs Soesilo Soedarman, accompanied by Manpower Minister Abdul Latief, inaugurated the information center on Jl. Prapatan in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

Soesilo said in his speech that the center will cater to the public's need for information on employment matters. He added that officials of the Ministry of Manpower have an important role in providing job opportunities, disseminating information on job vacancies and training job applicants.

The center provides data about the number of job opportunities, job seekers, employers and labor suppliers available in the city. Free information about job training, industrial relationships, labor supervision, requirements for working abroad and a professional program specially designed for new college and university graduates are also provided by the center.

Employers, companies and individuals can obtain detailed information on the qualifications and other related details of job applicants so they can employ the right people.

Job seekers will be helped to apply for the jobs which suit their skills and experiences.

Under the existing regulations regarding employment affairs, job seekers as well as employers are required to report to the mayoralty office of the Ministry of Manpower. This is aimed at helping facilitate employment.

However, the center will not carry out technical matters needed by job seekers. "We just give information on manpower matters," said Freddy Tuamely, head of the city office of the Ministry of Manpower. Beside giving information, he added, the center will also help link job seekers with related agencies, companies or individuals.

Soesilo called on the public and companies to make the most of the center to gain complete and proper information about manpower.

He said the center is part of the government's policy to provide adequate public facilities while offering better services to the people.

Abdul Latief said that the center is the first of its kind in the country. "It is a pilot project and we will later set up information centers across the country."

He vowed that nationwide on-line manpower information centers will be completed within the next three to five years.(29)
