Jakarta — PT Jakarta Propertindo (Persero) or Jakpro has stated that the extension of the Jakarta LRT route from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas is part of strengthening a public transport system that is interconnected and integrated across the Jabodetabek metropolitan area. Chief Executive Iwan Takwin of Jakpro said the Jakarta LRT master plan is prepared with an integration approach across Jakarta’s major public transport modes, such as MRT Jakarta, Transjakarta, KRL Commuter Line, and the airport rail link. The central concept of this master plan is to build transport and area integration through a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) approach. Accordingly, the LRT Jakarta route is directed towards strategic nodes, such as Manggarai and Dukuh Atas, so that residents can switch between modes quickly and comfortably, he said. He added that the Manggarai and Dukuh Atas corridors become the main hubs in this development because they play a strategic role as meeting points of mobility for Jakarta residents and the Jabodetabek agglomeration. Furthermore, he said, the development of the Jakarta LRT is not merely about building new transport corridors but also a crucial part of forming the urban mobility ecosystem of Jakarta’s future. He stated that besides supporting mobility, the development of the Jakarta LRT network is also expected to have a twofold impact on the city’s economic growth. Similarly, the presence of LRT stations is projected to create new centres of economic growth through increased activity and the development of transit-oriented development (TOD) areas. “Each station will generate a new economic spillover. Higher community activity will open business opportunities, drive the local economy, and deliver direct benefits to the welfare of residents around the transport corridors,” he said. Jakpro is also confident that stronger public transport can encourage a shift from private vehicles to mass transit, contributing to reductions in congestion and carbon emissions toward Jakarta’s zero-emission target. “At present, construction of the LRT Jakarta Phase 1B on the Velodrome–Manggarai route continues to show positive progress and is targeted to commence operations soon to support more efficient and integrated mobility for Jakarta’s residents,” he explained.
