Jakarta host Philately expo
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave opened on Saturday the eighth Asia Philately exhibition at the Jakarta Fair compound in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
The Jakarta '95 philately exhibition, which will last through Aug.25, is being organized by the state-postal company PT Pos Indonesia in cooperation with the Indonesian Philatelists Association and Inter Asia Philatelist Federation.
The event, which is one of the myriad of activities being held nationwide to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Indonesia's independence, is displaying stamps from more than 50 countries.
The organizers are also holding other activities, including a seminar on philately, philately and youth, an international competition on philately, philately quizzes, stamp design competition for students and how to sell philately collections.
Queen Beatrix of Holland is scheduled to visit the exhibition tomorrow.
Joop Ave said that Indonesia has organized international exhibitions on philately previously, including in Surabaya in 1993. Next year there will be another international exhibition on philately, the world youth philatelists exhibition, in Bandung, West Java. (29)
