Jakarta Hit by Extreme Heat, Here Are 5 Prevention Steps from DKI Provincial Government
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is urging all residents of the capital to increase their vigilance and implement preventive steps to avoid health risks amid the extreme heat phenomenon that has struck over the past few days.
This appeal was conveyed by the Special Staff to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, in Jakarta on Thursday (19/3). These anticipatory measures refer to the latest forecast from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
“We understand the complaints felt directly by residents, including discomfort in outdoor activities, heat felt until the afternoon, and impacts on vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, outdoor workers, and those with certain health conditions,” said Chico.
Chico added that DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has given special attention to the potential for extreme heat. Although asking the public not to worry excessively, the Governor emphasised the importance of measured preventive steps.
Currently, the DKI Provincial Government continues intensive coordination with the BMKG for daily monitoring and an early warning system. Anticipatory strategies will also be adjusted quickly following developments in weather dynamics on the ground.
“We also invite all Jakarta residents to remind each other and maintain health together,” added Chico.
As part of mitigation efforts, the DKI Provincial Government has released practical guidelines for residents to face extreme temperatures:
As a follow-up, the Governor has instructed the BPBD, Health Service, to regional apparatus (Mayors, Sub-district Heads, Village Heads) to strengthen socialisation through RT/RW and routinely monitor residents’ health conditions at community health centres and integrated health posts.
