Jakarta high court has new chief

JAKARTA (JP): Chief of the Supreme Court Soerjono officially
appointed yesterday Hasan Ghasim Shahab as the new chief of the
Jakarta provincial high court.

Hasan replaced Soeharto, who is now a senior judge at the
Supreme Court.

In his address at the city hall ceremony mid this week
Soerjono called all judges working in Jakarta to be careful and
wise when handing down verdicts.

"Social observers are always interested in us. Reports on what
we are doing could have a big impact in society," he said.

"As judges we are obliged to maintain the good image of
justice," he added.

Governor Surjadi Soedirdja was among those who attended the
ceremony. (sur)
